(If you’re not sure how to pronounce his name, here’s a phonetic guide: “Me high? Cheeks send me high!”) Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is one of the most successful modern psychologists. People recognize his name all over the world, although it’s really hard to pronounce. He calls his theory the “psychology of optimal experience”. This is because he emphasizes the concept of “flow” or mindfulness. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi asks, "What makes a life worth living?" Noting that money cannot make us happy, he looks to those who find pleasure and lasting satisfaction in activities that bring about a state of "flow." Many emotions can be described as flowing (Csikszentmihalyi, 1990).

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi · Positive psychologist. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has contributed pioneering work to our understanding of happiness, creativity, human fulfillment and the notion of "flow" -- a state of heightened focus and immersion in activities such as art, play and work. Csikszentmihalyi eesmärgiks on mõista, kuidas inimene saaks oma igapäevaelus rohkem kulgemise tunnet kogeda. Csikszentmihalyi on uurinud ka autoteelilist isiksust. Autoteelilisus tähendab, et inimene teeb asju, kuna need pakuvad talle sisemist rahulolu, mitte väliste eesmärkide saavutamiseks.

Named by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi in 1975, the concept has been widely referred to flow state across a variety of fields (and is particularly well recognized in occupational therapy), though the concept has been claimed to have existed for thousands of years under other names. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is one of the pioneers of the scientific study of happiness. He was born in Hungary in 1934 and, like many of his contemporaries, he was touched by the Second World War in ways that deeply affected his life and later work. During his childhood, he was put in an Italian prison. The ability to enter a flow state of mind is something that Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has devoted his entire career to understanding. In Running Flow, Dr. Csikszentmihalyi is joined by fellow psychologist Christine Weinkauff and running journalist and coach Philip Latter. This landmark work is the first book dedicated to helping runners achieve the state of flow in competitive and training environments. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Claremont, California.
